Hey, just a note to all witches, wizards, spellcasters, and magic users. I've already talked to a couple of you about this, but now I'm going to make it official- I'm starting up a magic group. The idea of the group is simple- anybody who wants to can come and talk about- and learn about- magic, and hopefully we can even get some sort of magically-oriented projects underway. So if you're a magic user and feel like sharing, or even if you're not and you're just curious, let me know what a good time is and how many people are interested. I'll try to set us up with a good meeting place.

After I sent out the message over the journals, I headed out to the library and pulled out a whole mess of magic books, then went to Good Spirits to go over them. Most of it was crap, but who knows what kinds of decent magical information and rituals from other worlds might turn up in here?

He'd seen the filter but he hadn't been able to crack it. It left him with a bitter curiousity in the back of his throat. Harry was a mate, weren't he? So why was he hiding things? Or...mayhaps Sharpe shouldn't mind at all. A man was allowed his secrets.

Still -- perhaps he ought to be more careful.

All the same, when Harry stepped into the bar? Sharpe raised a warm, one-handed greeting.

As soon as I saw him, I felt a stab of guilt, but I forced it aside, setting my books down and shrugging off my duster to drape over them, then went over to greet him.

"Hey, Richard. How's it going?"

"Got naught to complain about, Harry. Naught to complain about."

He tapped the bartop twice. A near-silent little knock on wood, although he wasn't superstitious himself. Some soldiering habits simply stuck.

"Yourself?"

"Ah, just. Projects. Getting the feel of the place, finding people with common interests."

I frowned, irritably, and added

"Dealing with these damn Shifts."

"Aye," he motioned to the stool next to him, "that last one had a wicked edge to it."

I took the offered seat.

"Last week? Craziness all over the village, words out of people's heads, all that crap?"

I frowned.

"Lucked out. Didn't get caught up in that one, but some of that stuff sounded... humiliating."

His brows raised.

"And women turning into men..."

"Yeah, I heard about that. Sounds kind of..."

Wait.

I stared at him for a long moment, just trying for a moment to will those mental images out of my head.

"You... you didn't...?"

"God, no. I'm speaking of Miss Adele, Harry."

"Ah. Missed that, yeah- we don't talk much."

I really didn't want to imagine her as a man. It would be weird.

Also, I hoped to hell she was a little taller.

"It was...odd. To say the least. She seemed rather resigned to it."
