Second Casefile: Casting Lines [Action/Written]

I'd been keeping myself busy for the past week or so, starting when Molly arrived, and had thus far found very little success with anything. There were no thresholds to work with, there were no ley lines to tap into, there were no places rich with magical energy to utilize, and I'd be damned if I was going to try and open a gate to the Nevernever again.

I did not need that bitch of a migraine to come back.

So, along with my apprentice, I began scouting around the village looking for any significant mystical resources. She was also interested in the Filial spirits, but frankly, they sound too much like the Fey for my taste, and I've had quite enough of that, thanks.

Today, however, I was doing something more personally significant. I was going to make myself a new staff, because clearly the old one wasn't showing up any time soon. Unfortunately, this process takes freaking forever, and I had no idea where to start.

So I figured I'd phone a friend.

[Written- filtered from Richard Sharpe 3%] [Hey, he sucks at filters, give him a break.]

Hey. Any and all spellcasters, magic-workers, witches, wizards, and anybody else who knows how to work with magic and spellcraft, I was hoping to get some input on the local situation.

Are there any local magic sources, aside from the Filial spirits, that can be tapped into or accessed? Are any of the local flora and fauna significant at all, mystically? Have there been any difficulties you've had using certain kinds of magic? Anything considerably easier?

In essence- What's the deal, anyway?

[Feel free to encounter him as he surveys the village and surrounding environs- he'll be doing odd things like marking, taking paint scrapings, and making notes on a map- or as he surveys the woods for a tree that will provide adequate wood for his staff.]

You, carelessly voicing your interest in the devil's art... [The words are sensually emphasized.] ...and desiring to speak with those who practice it.

[He huffs a laugh.]

Do you not fear for your eternal soul~?

"Woah, woah, woah. Um. Buddy, I don't mean to be all politically correct on you or anything, but my work isn't subsidized by Beelzebub, Belphegor, Satan, Lucifer, or any other demonic entity, and I kinda get a little edgy when folks start talking like that.

That's how witchburning happens, y'know."

[And he does know. He knows all too well. After a thoughtful pause, he then answers grimly:]

Indeed.

He was kind of freaking me out now.

"... So who are you?"

Demanding an introduction when you have not offered me so much as your name~? How very uncivil.

[With a breathy chuckle, he promptly switches to Video format, revealing his tattooed face and pale, hungry eyes.]

Is this to your liking, or would you prefer that I show the rest of me?

Alright, this guy wants video? I can do that.

"Sorry if I seem rude. I don't take kindly to cryptic and sinister."

[Isaac is quietly pleased with the fact that the man has chosen to show his face, but his smile doesn't linger long for he soon adopts an exaggerated look of wide-eyed innocence.]

Sinister...? [He glances about himself as if there were someone in his midst more fitting of the adjective. He then gently presses a hand over his heart.]

You wound me.

"Oh, please. Nobody runs around with tattoos on their face and a collar around their neck that isn't trying to make some sort of statement."

... I was suddenly very glad I wasn't wearing my duster at the moment, or I'd feel pretty silly.

Tattoos?

[The word is unfamiliar to him, but he can grasp the meaning from the context.]

You mean these? [The way in which he says it, it is as if he never notices them every time he happens to gaze into a mirror or a pool of water. He tilts his head at a slight angle to better expose them.]

My dear man - ahaha - there is far more than what it is you see now.

"Fantastic. It still doesn't tell me why you were over there... what's the word, trolling my journal."

[What on earth is trolling? He has seen a good number of trolls among Dracula's ranks back home and it is insulting to be compared to likes of them.]

Why? [He gives a humourless snort.] I do find it most fascinating still how those here will talk of sorcery without fear of being burned at the stake or punished in ways more... gruesome and agonizing. Human beings... are remarkably inventive when it comes to inflicting pain.

"Yeah, well. Sometimes we have help coming up with this crap."

From whom? [He asks, the wry amusement in his voice tinged with curiosity.] Aside from one another.

"Oh, you know. Demons. Fallen angels. The Fae and the denizens of the Nevernever. Vampires."

... Okay, I hadn't meant to spit the word 'vampires' quite so venomously.

Look, it was a touchy subject for me, okay?

Is there no love for the vampire~? [Isaac asks teasingly, before chuckling through his nose.]

In my experience... [He resumes with a cool calm.] A devil or a bloodsucking leech will not subject a man to the most excruciating tortures because the all-loving God wills it, or out of some smug sense of self-righteousness. They will do it simply because it is... satisfying. If one is to suffer, 'tis... kinder... without His words being forced down one's throat.

[The last few words are nearly snarled.]

"Yeah. A century of dicks in red dresses misinterpreting scripture totally makes up for millenia of soulless predation, you're right. Those poor, abused vampires."

Do not think me fond of those miserable, disgusting worms.

"Oh, an all-purpose misanthrope, then?"

I chuckled. It probably wasn't a terribly warm, friendly chuckle.

"Talk all you want about the evils man deals unto man, but I've seen real monstrosity. It's not remotely the same."

Oh?

[The Forgemaster adopts his, 'do enlighten me' expression as he rests his chin in his palm and smiles politely.]

"Ever heard of the Naagloshi? Hmm? Or He Who Walks Behind? Ever seen the Queens of Faerie through the True Sight, preparing for a war that could destroy the whole human race?"

I laughed. Again, it wasn't pleasant.

"Vampires are hideous, monstrous abominations compared to even the worst humanity has to offer, and they're still chump change on the cosmic scale of badness. The bottom of the totem pole. These things think the Holocaust was a goddamn birthday party."

A shame you and dear old Dracula were never acquainted.

[He laughs himself, mirthlessly.]

Although... with that tongue of yours, he would not have suffered your presence for very long.

"What can I say, I have that effect on people."

People a lot bigger and scarier than one Black Court vampire, even a badass like Drac.

"I don't care for bullies."

Perhaps you should, if you value your own life.

[Despite his choice of words, it isn't a threat, for there is no fierce urge in him to wound or kill this man. Had he been possessed still by Lord Dracula's curse, however...]

"Yeah, that's what they keep telling me. And yet, here I am. Alive."

I frowned over my shoulder.

"...I assume."

[Despite the explanations of others, he is often inclined to think that Luceti is some form of Hell.]
