Still, it's not like she's kept it a secret since she got here. ...Not all of it, at least.]

Y-you could say that, yeah. [She's moving onto the garlic now, trying to act casual. Casually avoiding his gaze, yep.] It's sort of...it's sort of what I do, I guess.

I noticed her avoiding my gaze. It was just as well- made it easier to not meet her eyes for too long. I try to avoid that, and the problem with that was that, me being so tall and most women being so short, it's hard to tell that I'm focusing on their nose instead of ogling them.

Conversations while not facing each other were a lot easier, but, well, that wasn't always practical.

"Hmm. I'm kind of a wizard, although apparently I suck at it when dealing with somebody else's vampires."

There was another brief pause, while I put another cross into place.

"I'm working on getting together a group, actually. People who work magic, know about magic, or just want to learn about magic, from various realities."

[And Willow's just getting her spellbook out when he mentions said group. Slowly thumbing through the pages, she looks towards him curiously.]

Sort of...like, a magic club? [Because she went to one of those in college, man. And it was pretty lineface-inducing.]

I read between the lines on that one and picked up a lot of distaste. Natural talent, looking for instruction, often looked for it with the entirely wrong people and were thoroughly disappointed in the results. At least, that was how it often worked for wizards in my world.

But somehow I imagined she'd had something similar.

"Right, except not one run by, y'know. New-agey people who've mistaken their religion for actual supernatural abilities. Or D&D players who take their game a little too seriously."

It's possible I'd had a few encounters with magic groups, "arcane orders," and "secret societies" like that. A chapter of the Ordo Templi whatever, a few Wiccan or Druidic organizations. Actually, several of them had asked me to come speak to their groups or even join. I'd universally refused, despite one of them offering me money in the wake of an incident on the Larry Fowler show.

Sometimes I think I'm too honest for my own good.

[Yeah, she's having flashbacks to Wicca Club from college, in spite of more or less knowing that he's talking about something different.

The magic nerd in her is jumping with joy, but the rest of her isn't so keen on throwing caution to the wind.]

Oh, I know there is. Just...this would be more like, um, like a theory thing, right?

"Uh. Little of the first, little of the second. Spell of the week doesn't really work unless there's one teacher specifically, which isn't what I had in mind, but I was kinda thinking we'd... pool our resources. Work on projects together. Discuss the theory, but also see how magic A and magic B interact."

Ahh. So, like Magic Chem Lab. Complete with blowing stuff up?

I guess it sounds...interesting. [But her tone is still pretty non-committal. Just mentally going through all the things that might go wrong...]

"No, no, no. No blowing things up. I tend to avoid that where I can. Safety first, et cetera."

I shrugged.

"Most of the projects I had in mind are fairly minor, anyway. Enchanting items, protective spells on the village, that kind of thing."

Maybe I wouldn't mention the artificial ley line experiment just yet. I didn't want her thinking I was some kind of magically-inclined Doctor Frankenstein or anything.

Sure...okay. [Hey, it could be fun! And if it got too...too much, it's not like she couldn't just bow out, right?

She almost wants to explain. Almost. It's not like she hadn't come close to telling perfect strangers, in this place. And Harry was a wizard himself, so he should be able to understand, right?

...But no, not yet. There's a difference between discussing your Issues with your closest friends, and acquaintances. Acquaintances from another world, to boot.]

H-hey, so it looks like all I need to do now is the incantation. Won't take long!

I stood back and folded my arms, watching with some curiosity. This would be my first time seeing magic from another world in action, I was a little curious.

[Unfortunately, this particular bit of magic isn't very flashy or dramatic. Nor does it...require a whole lot, which makes it more comfortable for her.

Willow holds her book in front of her and begins slowly reading aloud in Latin. When she reaches the final line--"his verbes consensus recissus est"--she closes it and looks back at Harry, a satisfied smile on her face.]

There ya go! One apartment, de-vamped.
