Well, sure, I was just sitting on the roof. I mean, hey, it was a bit chilly, but I'm used to that. And I wasn't sure where I was, but hell, that's hardly any change.

The fact that I couldn't figure out how to get down was entirely irrelevant. I assure you. So there I sat, on the roof, scribbling in my journal.

The wings, it seems, didn't come off. Damn near fell off the roof figuring that out. They still throbbed.

The journal was an interesting thing, actually. It had my name on it. Apparently it updated to represent the journals other people used? I'd tried to look at it through the Sight. Luckily, the freezing cold was doing wonders staving off that headache.

I looked over the side again. Considered trying to climb. But, well, it was a rather tall building, and there weren't many handholds within reach. No. No, better to find some other method. So I'll just keep writing in that journal.

Hey. Don't know if there's some sort of etiquette to this... journal thing, or whatever it's called, but I have a question.

Where the hell am I, why do I have wings, and how did I get on top of this building without any clothing?

I don't think I was that drunk last night...

[She gestures at Harry to come join her.] It's just over the edge here. If you swing down, you'll be able to put your feet on the windowsill, and there's a stool there to help you get inside. [She'll demonstrate it herself, although she pretty much just swings right into her bedroom like a monkey, forgoing the use of the stool entirely (which she'd only used so that she could actually get up on the windowsill in the first place) and landing deftly on her feet.]

I gave a dubious glance down at the ground, then at the window.

Nothing for it, Dresden. I grabbed the ledge and swung down into the window.

And missed the stool entirely. My ass hit the floor hard, knocking the wind out of me and-

Oh, hey. Didn't miss the stool after all, looks like I caught it with my head at the last minute.

Okay. Just gonna. Take a second and recover my capacity for respiration, now.

"... Guess I'm a bit tall for that jump." I finally managed to wheeze out.

[o shi -- ]

Ack! Are you okay? Do you need ice or anything? [She goes over to help him, moving the stool out of the way (for all the good that'll do him at this point).]

"I'm good. I've had worse," I choked out.

Any time my capacity to draw breath felt like coming back to me, that'd be great.

Any time now.

Screw this. I began shoving my way off the ground and back to my feet.

[Pao-Lin still feels bad, so she definitely helps Harry up the best she can, providing support if he needs it.]

Well, if you say so...

[She studies him carefully.]

I'd give you something to wear until we got to the stores, but...I'm pretty sure nothing I have is going to fit you. [Understatement of the year. But then she gets an idea!] Ah, you can use one of my blankets to cover up!

[She snatches up a fleece blanket -- one of a couple -- from her bed and offers it to Harry.]

I was starting to get my breath back, so I straightened up and looked at the proffered blanket dubiously.

I don't see you coming up with anything better, Harry.

I wrapped the blanket around my shoulders.

"Thank you."

[She nods.]

No problem. [She starts to lead him out the door, then stops.] Oh, I'm Pao-Lin, by the way.

"Oh. Uh... Dresden. Harry Dresden. Nice to meet you." I grinned in what I hoped was a friendly manner.

I'm sure the snuggly blanket wrapped around my shoulders didn't hurt.

[She beams up at him.]

It's nice to meet you, Mr. Dresden! Welcome to Luceti.

[She starts leading him out into the hallway and the living room of the apartment. In contrast to the kelly green walls of her room (and the other bedrooms in the place), the main part of the apartment is painted bright yellow with red trim. They'll pass by the doors of the two other bedrooms in the apartment. One of the doors is closed, but Harry will be able to see a table full of weapons and possibly a shelf of food through the door of the other one. The living room has a black futon couch with a couple of colorful throw pillows, a black lacquered Asian-style coffee table, and a small corner table with a framed sketch and some other trinkets.]

Well, the style was interesting, and brightly colored, and-

Oh my god, was that a table full of weapons?

Okay. Harry, you've just been rescued by the resident axe-murderer. Be cool.

"Thanks. Sorry if I'm inconveniencing you at all."

Please don't axe-murder me.

[She shakes her head.]

It's fine! I wasn't doing anything too important, and I don't mind helping new people out. This place can take some getting used to.

"Hey, if the locals are all this helpful, I think I could get used to it."

... As long as you're not an ax-murderer, I'm really not kidding about that.

Maybe she was just some sort of medieval weapon enthusiast. A collector.

Sure.

A lot of people are really helpful here. It's part of what makes being in Luceti a decent place to live, even though we're all trapped here.

[She begins to lead him out the door and into the hallway.]
